Biblical applications for events in life and/or writing. What if you never
write the words God gives you?
"I Would Not Have"
By Dea Sipes
"…that they may know…" Psalms 109:27 (KJV)
Recently my sister reminded me that the Lord trusts me with the
challenges I have or I'd not have them. Then she said, "Don't you
wish sometimes He didn't trust you with so much."
God gave me these verses early this morning. Psalms 109:26-27,
" Help me, O Lord my God: Oh save me according to thy mercy:
THAT THEY MAY KNOW that this is Thy hand; that Thou, LORD,
HAS DONE IT." (KJV)
We know that God has given each of us a gift. I was blest with the
gift of "gab." I know I talk a lot. As I mature in age, I believe I learn
when to be still and when to talk. I also believe that when God looks
down on this daughter of His, He KNOWS I will not keep quiet about
HIM as He continues to work in my life.
As I reflect I realize I would not have the privilege of sharing the
results of my challenge when we were broke and down to only five
dollars. The boys were young. We had no money. When we managed
to get five dollars, I had to give it to God. His bank and His resources
are beyond understanding. Somehow HE manages to supply our every
need and He did. We only need to trust. ("…that they may KNOW
that this is THY HAND…"
If I would not have prayed, if I had not shared with one other to
pray about the money we needed to buy our house, I'd not had the
privilege to share with others the AMAZING MIRACLE God performed
by sending us the six thousand dollars we needed for our house.
("…that they may KNOW that this is THY HAND…"
If our youngest son had not been involved in an accident an entire
state away from us, I would not have had the opportunity to share with
my coworkers that I knew God was right there with him and would
take care of him. Many prayed and the power of prayer resulted in our
son healing with all his parts moving. ("…that they may KNOW that
this is THY HAND…")
Then there was Billy's mom. There I was in my workplace. A dear
lady came to me with questions about a piece of merchandise she wanted
to buy. As we talked about the merchandise the conversation
turned to the horrific accident her son had recently been in that
took his life. When I realized who the customer was, I was so humbled
and honored. Of all the daughters and sons God had in our
community, God trusted little old ME with this dear mother
sobbing in pain and anguish. I was a stranger to this woman.
Yet, God trusted ME! I never would have gained the experience,
the peace, and the growth in the Lord that I did that day had God
not trusted me with Billy's mom. ("…that they may KNOW that
this is THY hand…"
Just as the Apostle Paul had his thorn in the flesh, I've had
mine. Since I was in my 30's I have often struggled with depression.
I never know when it is going to rear its ugly head. I can go to bed
at night fine and wake up with it staring me in the face. I have
begged, cried, and pleaded with the Lord to take this from me.
I would not have the joy that comes in completely relying on God
and His strength if I did not have this thorn. God gives me strength.
I don't WANT this thorn, but God trusts me with it. ("…that they
may KNOW that this is THY hand…"
When I had to walk through the valley of grief, I was sure God
had trusted me with way too much. Our oldest brother died on Valentines
Day in 2003 and five months later God called my dad home. I found
myself in the deep valley of grief. It is grief I am still not over. In this
valley I have found a God that is MORE GOD than I ever knew was
possible. Had I not been trusted to go in this valley, I'd never had the
honor of sharing with so many what God has done and is doing in my
life. I would have never experienced this personal time with the
Lord had He not allowed such an experience. ("…that they may
KNOW that it is THY hand…")
I grow weary. The Bible says, "And let us not grow weary in
well doing for in due season we shall reap, IF we faint not." (Galatians 6:9)
It is during these times of weariness that God shows me MORE GRACE
than I could ever deserve. HE understands that I am human.
He wants me to understand that I am human.
Psalms 111:4, "He hath made His wonderful works to be
remembered…" I have to remember that God made me the
blabber box that I am. I have to believe that He knew even
before I was born that I would not keep quiet about anything
He does in my life. As the challenges come in my life, this blabber
box remains on duty.
"Father, help us to always remember that You, in Your grace and
great wisdom, only give to us what You know we can be trusted with.
May our lips always praise You. Help us to stand strong, even in the
tough times. In Christ's name I pray."
