Most of the long summer of my 33d year I spent hospitalized. Diagnosis' like arthritis, multiple myaloma and finally sebacute bacterial endocarditis involved tests upon tests and IV's. In fact an IV had become part of my persona that hospital stay; annoying to drag around, painful to endure and a grim reminder death was a heartbeat away. All that and something more I discovered one night in the quiet.

Earlier, I had been reading Psalm 77 and a verse about "my song in the night" struck me. Then - it was the middle of the my night.

Quiet. Blessed quiet. No one sick and moaning between retches, no death rails that echo into your soul. Then I heard the bubbles in my IV bottle swim to the top and break. Like clockwork they curled to the top and broke at the surface. I began to pray, "It's a ringing then a pop noise isn't it? I wonder Lord, how many lives the IV procedure has saved? Thank you for those who perfected it. Thank you for my life that using it has saved.

I'm glad you're here to talk to. I can tell you anything and you understand; even about the bubbles in my IV bottle, my song in the night. Thank you for letting me hear it"

Psa 42:8 " [Yet] the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song [shall be] with me, [and] my prayer unto the God of my life." Psa 77:6- " I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search. ".
